Swim, said the mama fishy, swim if you can...
I'm a bad singer. Really bad. But luckily Littlest J is still too young to realise what good singing should sound like, so I'm milking this for all it's worth. We've fallen into a lovely habit of me singing to her after we read her bedtime story. Her vocabulary is still fairly limited, but she's definitely able to let me know what songs she likes (and doesn't like - sorry, Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star).
She loves the songs I make up (complete nonsense with her and her brother's names inserted, which makes her giggle) and, weirdly, she also enjoys the same songs my Mum and Nana sang to me when I was a baby.
Here are the top 3. Not exactly your typical lullabies...
She Wears Red Feathers was written by Bob Cronin in 1952 and was a UK number 1 single in 1953. This was the year my Mum was born, so I guess my Nana sang it to her when she was born, which is pretty cool. It's the story of a banker's love for a hula hula girl. Why not, eh?
A Bushel and a Peck was a song in the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls and was recorded by various artists in the 1950s, including Doris Day, Perry Como and Johnny Desmond. I'm guessing my Mum didn't do the saucy moves when she sang it to us kids...
Three Little Fishes was a UK number 1 hit way back in 1939. This is Littlest J's favourite. I think she can relate to those rebellious little fishes:
"Stop!" said the mama fishy, "you will get lost!"
But the three little fishies didn't wanna be bossed.
The three little fishies went off on a spree
And they swam and they swam right out to the sea.

Project 366 - Day 201/366 ~ The Creation Station Review
I've been meaning to take the kids to one of our local Creation Station art and craft sessions for ages, and we finally made it today. I wasn't sure how it would go, as Little J hasn't really shown much of an interest in all things arty so far. As for his little sister, she can certainly make a whole lot of mess with a felt tip pen, but seems to favour destroying things over creating them at the moment.
As it turns out, I had nothing to worry about. As soon as we arrived, the kids put on their paint suits and we were good to go. After some introductions, singing and parachute fun, we discovered what was in the "Magical Ideas Box" (all the kids loved this part). Littlest then spent the next hour happily running around the hall while her brother and I got stuck into the morning's project - a sea scene, complete with our own tropical fish!
We had a fantastic time. It was lovely to see my little boy's creative side coming out, and although Littlest didn't join in with any of the art, she was more than happy pottering about. The Family Fun session is suitable for ages 1-11, making it perfect for parents who have children of different ages. I often find that classes and activities (particularly physical ones) aren't suitable for both of my children, making it hard to take part.
At The Creation Station art and craft sessions, a different project is chosen every week, so there's something different for regulars to enjoy. The "Show and Tell" is a nice way to end the session. As I expected, Little J was a little shy when it came to showing off his work but he was really pleased with his fish...mummy was too!
We went to a Family Fun Session with Liz from The Creation Station South Ayrshire. To find The Creation Station near you, click here. As well as the Family Fun Sessions, you can attend Toddler Art Classes (age 1-5) and Baby Discovery Classes (with siblings welcome at a special rate). A Creation Station Arty Party is packed full of art and craft activities for the birthday boy or girl and the party guests, including decorating their own party bags and making a beaded keyring, jewellery or laser bracelet.
Disclosure: I was not asked to write about The Creation Station, and I received no payment for this post. I aim to blog with honesty and integrity at all times.

Thank You
Around 12 months ago, I really didn't know where I was. Not in geographical terms (the West coast of Scotland - more often than not knee deep in sponge balls in a soft play centre, if you want specifics), but in terms of my head, my heart, my ambitions.
Years of struggling with a business that never quite made it, while feeling too stressed, too preoccupied, too inadequate to pursue my real dreams, had left me feeling unsettled. Issues in my personal life were being overlooked, like yesterday's newspapers. I felt - rightly or wrongly - that I could only rely on my children to bring light into my life.
Today, things are better. Much better. I have had to make some difficult decisions, which I'm confident are the right ones. I'm still knee deep in those sponge balls, but my head is in a better place.
This blog has been important to me over the past 8 months. It might seem like it's simply a - some would say egotistical, and I would argue, but you're entitled to your opinion - collection of often mediocre photographs of my children, but it has been so much more than that. It has helped me focus on what's really important in my life, given me a creative outlet, and helped me to connect with some really inspirational people.
To everyone who has read any of my posts, I want to say thank you - you're the best. To those who have taken the time to leave a comment - you're even better.
